Visit to Old University building

To look up – and up – at the Real Fábrica de Tabacos (Royal Tobacco Factory) is to get a sense of the scale of Seville’s tobacco industry in the 18th century. This is one of the largest buildings in Spain (only El Escorial tops it in terms of surface area). It’s used as a university building now, but you can still walk around it. The reason most people visit is to get a vision of Bizet’s doomed heroine, Carmen. This building is where she worked and these doors are where she lounged, fresh from rolling cigars on her thighs, to ensnare her lovers. Carmen’s wraith may be compelling, but the wraiths of the real cigar workers – nearly all of them women – also clamor for attention, as do the colonially themed bas-reliefs on the outside of the building.

Meeting point: Calle San Fernando, 4. 41004 Sevilla, 6:30 pm.

Welcome reception: Old University building

After the tour of the old university building, a conference cocktail reception will be served in one of the building’s courtyards.

Meeting point: Calle San Fernando, 4. 41004 Sevilla, 8:00 pm.

Wednesday, November 30

Horse carriage tour & Flamenco show

A horse carriage ride in Seville is the most authentic and charming way to visit the monuments of the city. A genuine panoramic ride through the most important points of the city, such as the Plaza de España, the María Luisa Park, the Tobacco Factory, the Alfonso XIII Hotel, the Cathedral, the Giralda, the Reales Alcázares and much more. The tour will finish at Patio Sevillano, the oldest “tablao” in Seville, founded in 1952 and located right next to the emblematic Triana Bridge, the bullring and the Gold Tower. A 60-minute flamenco show will delight us with typical Andalusian songs and dances, covering different “palos” (dances) of flamenco with its different styles.

Meeting point: Calle Dr. Pedro de Castro, 1, 41004 Sevilla, 6:30 pm.

Tapas Tour

After the flamenco show, we will guide you through the center of Seville to visit emblematic bars and taste typical Andalusian tapas.

Thursday, December 1

Guided walking tour

Starting from the hotel of the venue and finishing at the restaurant where the conference gala dinner will take place, we will enjoy a walking tour through the city and reveal you the secrets of Sevilla by telling you its legends and historical facts.

Meeting point: Calle Dr. Pedro de Castro, 1, 41004 Sevilla, 6:30 pm.

Conference dinner: Abades Triana

Abades Triana is located on Betis Street in Seville, next to the Guadalquivir River and in front of the Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold), in the popular Triana neighborhood.
Its spectacular panoramic window in the main dining room makes it the perfect enclave to see the river as a protagonist and take in the views of the Torre del Oro, the Giralda, and the Maestranza, three of the main symbols of the city.

Meeting point: Calle Betis 69, Sevilla, 8:00 pm.
